Book Review
Granny Square Baby Afghans by Carol Holding is a pattern booklet featuring 7 vibrant granny blankets for baby.
In addition to the patterns offered in the booklet, written in U.S. abbreviations, there are notes written in other colors embedded in the pattern text to guide crocheters through different stitches, as well as camera icons to indicate when online video tutorials are available. (You can find the tutorials for this booklet here on the Leisure Arts website.) Each pattern uses a different motif pattern and one is also made in strips of motifs.
The booklet also includes a key to pattern abbreviations, a yarn weight and crochet hook chart, information about gauge, written instructions for several joining methods, and written and illustrated instructions for post stitches, working in a space before a stitch, and the whipstitch. The booklet ends with a brief bio of Carol and information about the yarns used in the booklet.
Granny Square Baby Afghans includes seven different granny blanket patterns and is ideal for a crocheter who enjoys making projects for baby, prefers written instructions but likes to have video tutorials for back up, and who likes to make motifs. It lays flat when open so you can crochet and read at the same time. As with all pattern booklets, you’ll get more value from it if you like the patterns and want to make them. You can see a picture of all seven patterns in the booklet on its page on the Leisure Arts website.

I would love to have 50 fabulous crochet squares. Fifty is enough to make a decent size afghan.
I’d like the learn to crochet circles into squares. The technique could very useful in adapting a lot of different patterns.
I’d be thrilled to win any of the books, but I’m most excited about Rainbow Crocheted Afghans by Amanda Perkins
