Elf Gnome Gift Card Holder
Crochet Christmas Gift Card Holder Pattern by Underground Crafter



This crochet Christmas gift card holder pattern adds a touch of whimsy to any gift card. This is the thirty-first pattern in the third annual Giftstravaganza Blog Hop and Crochet Along.
Finished Size
- To fit a standard gift card measuring approximately 3.375” (8.5 cm) x 2.125” (5.5 cm).
Materials
- Big Twist Value yarn (100% acrylic, 6 oz/170 g, 380 yd/347 m) – 1 skein each in Ivory (CA), Varsity Red (CB), Cream (CC), and Varsity Green (CD), or approximately 5 yd (4.5 m) in CA, 30 yd (27.5 m) in CB, 10 yd (9 m) in CC, and 20 yd (18.5 m) in CD in any medium weight yarn.
- US Size G-6/4 mm crochet hook, or any size needed to obtain correct gauge.
- Yarn needle.
- Locking stitch marker.
- Fiber filling.
Gauge
- 10 sc = 2” (5 cm) across. Exact gauge is not critical for this pattern. Stitches should be small so fabric is stiff.
Abbreviations Used in This Pattern
- BL – back loop only – Rich Textures Crochet has a helpful video demonstrating how to identify the back loop in crochet here.
- CA – Color A
- CB – Color B
- CC – Color C
- CD – Color D
- ch – chain
- invdec – invisible decrease – Insert hook in front loop only of each of next 2 sts, yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops. A helpful video tutorial for this decrease is available below.

Pattern Notes
- When choosing colors, CA is the center stripe of the Elf’s Jacket, CB is the main color of the Elf’s Jacket, CC is the color of the Gnome Nose, and CD is the color of the Elf’s Cap.
- Change colors in last yo of indicated stitch and crochet over yarn tails when possible. A helpful video tutorial demonstrating this is available below.

Pattern Instructions
Gift Card Holder
Elf’s Jacket
- With CA, ch 18.
- Row 1: Turn, skip 1 ch, sc in next 17 ch. (17 sts)
- Row 2: Turn, ch 1, sc in first st and each st across.
- Row 3: Repeat Row 2 once, changing to CB in last yo of final st, fasten off CA.
- Repeat Row 2 until piece measures approximately 4.75” (12 cm), fasten off CB with long yarn tail (approximately 18”/46 cm) for seaming.
Gnome Nose
- With CC, start with a magic adjustable ring (see Pattern Notes).
- Round 1: 6 sc in ring, tighten magic ring to close, pm in last st to mark position. (6 sts)
- Round 2: [2 sc in next st, sc in next st] around. (9 sts)
- Round 3: Sc in each st around.
- Rounds 4-5: Repeat Round 3, twice, fasten off CC with long yarn tail (approximately 12”/30.5 cm) for seaming.
Assemble Jacket and Nose
- Stuff Gnome Nose firmly with fiber filling.

- Thread yarn needle with CB from Jacket. With yarn needle, seam first and last row of jacket using a whipstitch seam (see Pattern Notes) on the wrong side. Weave in yarn tails on wrong side. Turn Jacket right side out and center CA stripe.

- Thread yarn needle with CC from Gnome Nose. Press sides of Gnome Nose together. With yarn needle, use a whipstitch seam to close Gnome Nose.

- Center Gnome Nose on Jacket. Use whipstitch seam and yarn needle to attach Gnome Nose to Jacket at top.

- With yarn needle, weave in ends on inside of Jacket.

- Join CB with sl st at bottom corner of Jacket, ch 1, join across bottom edge with single crochet seam (see Pattern Notes). Fasten off CB and weave yarn tails in on inside of Jacket.

Cap
Hat Band
- With CD, ch 3.
- Row 1: Turn, skip 1 ch, sc in next 2 ch. (2 sts)
- Row 2: Turn, ch 1, scBL in each st across.
- Repeat Row 2 until Hat Band measures approximately 5” (13 cm).
- Fold over so that short edges are together, being careful not to twist. Join with slip stitch seam (see Pattern Notes).
Shape Towards Crown
- Round 1: Ch 1, evenly work 25 sc (see Pattern Notes) along long edge, join with sl st to first sc. (25 sts)
- Round 2: Ch 1, sc in first st and each st around, join with sl st to first sc.
- Round 3: Repeat Round 2 once.
- Round 4: Ch 1, starting in first st [invdec, sc in next 3 sts] around, join with sl st to first st. (20 sts)
- Rounds 5-6: Repeat Round 2 twice.
- Round 7-9: Repeat Rounds 4-6 once. (16 sts)
- Round 10: Ch 1, starting in first st [invdec, sc in next 2 sts] around, join with sl st to first st. (12 sts)
- Rounds 11-12: Repeat Round 2 twice.
- Rounds 13-15: Repeat Rounds 10-12 once. (9 sts)
- Round 16: Ch 1, starting in first st [invdec, sc in next st] around, join with sl st to first st, pm in last st to mark position and begin working in unjoined Rounds. (6 sts)
- Round 17: Sc in each st around.
- Round 18: Repeat Round 17 once.
- Round 19: Invdec 3 times. (3 sts)
- Fasten off CD with long yarn tail (approximately 12”/30.5 cm) for finishing. With yarn needle, whipstitch Round 19 closed. Weave in yarn tails on inside of Cap.
- Position Cap on top of Jacket.
- Optional: If your Elf Gnome Gift Card Holder has a long journey, you may wish to attach the Cap to the back of the Jacket. To do so, thread yarn needle with approximately 8” (20.5 cm) in CD. Position Cap on Jacket with seam in back until satisfied with position. With yarn needle, attach Cap to Jacket with 2 whipstitches. Weave yarn tails on inside of Jacket.
