Star-Topped Tree Ornament

Crochet Christmas Tree Ornament Pattern by Underground Crafter

This crochet Christmas tree ornament pattern will add a smile to your face. It’s a great stashbuster that can be made with small amounts of 3 colors of medium weight yarn. This is the first pattern in the third annual Giftstravaganza Blog Hop and Crochet Along.

Finished Size

  • Approximately 4” (10 cm) tall after stuffing.

Materials

  • Big Twist Value yarn (100% acrylic, 6 oz/170 g, 380 yd/347 m) – 1 skein each in Varsity Gold (CA), Forest Green (CB), and Chocolate Brown (CC), or approximately 10 yd (9 m) each in CA and CC and 20 yd (18.5 m) in CB in  any medium weight yarn.
  • US Size G-6/4 mm crochet hook, or any size needed to obtain correct gauge.
  • Yarn needle.
  • Locking stitch markers.
  • Fiber filling.
  • 6 mm black safety eyes – 1 pair.
  • Ornament hook.

Gauge

  • Exact gauge is not critical for this pattern. Stitches should be small so fiber filling doesn’t show through.

Abbreviations Used in This Pattern

  • BL – back loop only – Rich Textures Crochet has a helpful video demonstrating how to identify the back loop in crochet here.
  • bob – 3-repeat bobble stitch – [Yo, insert hook into st, yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops] 3 times in the same st, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook. A video tutorial for this stitch pattern is available below.
  • If you can’t see the bobble video above, watch it on YouTube.
  • CA – Color A
  • CB – Color B
  • CC – Color C
  • ch – chain
  • pm# – place stitch marker#
  • RS – right (front) side
  • sc – single crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • WS – wrong side
  • [] Repeat instructions within brackets as indicated.

Pattern Notes

  • When possible, crochet over yarn tails as you work as demonstrated in the video below.
  • If you can’t see the video above demonstrating how to join with single crochet, watch it on YouTube.
