Crochet Pattern: Have It Both Ways Bobble Scarf

Today I’m sharing the second pattern in the Winter Wonderland Crochet Along with CAL Central Crochet. If you’re torn between crocheting a bobble scarf and a simple scarf, I have the perfect pattern for you! The Have It Both Ways Scarf combines a striped bobble scarf with an easy, one-color scarf to make an eyecatching project that gives you several looks in one scarf! It works up faster than you’d think with a bulky and plush polyester yarn.

Scroll down for the free Have It Both Ways bobble scarf pattern. If you’re like me, you love a project that’s interesting, but you also love a project that finishes quickly. I love bobbles, but they can be time consuming to create (and, they can also eat up a lot of yarn).

So for the Have It Both Ways Scarf, I designed a pattern where one side is colorful, more complicated, and the type of project that you’d have to focus on while crocheting. It will also (quite literally!) make your scarf pop with a bold design that is pretty and fun.

On the other hand, maybe you just want something you can crochet leisurely while watching your favorite show or while doing errands, without carrying around multiple balls of yarn and without counting your rows as often. Enter the simple side of the scarf.

By using the boldest color for those simple stitches, the scarf still has a lot of pop.

If you’re new to bobbles, I’ve got you covered with a video tutorial. And don’t worry, you’re only using one color on each row so these striped bobbles are a lot easier than they appear!

Have It Both Ways Scarf

Crochet Bobble Scarf Pattern by Underground Crafter

Do you want a bobble scarf or a simple scarf? With the Have It Both Ways Scarf, you’ll get both (and multiple looks) in one project! Start with a textured, striped bobble scarf and switch to an easy, one-color scarf for the second half. This is the second pattern in Winter Wonderland Crochet Along with CAL Central Crochet.

Pattern Notes

  • You may find it difficult to maintain the same gauge for the bobble section of the scarf as for the simple section of the scarf. If so, experiment with using a different hook size to keep both parts of the scarf the same width, or wet block the scarf to shape. Helpful blocking tips and video tutorials are available here.
  • Change color in the final yarn over of the designated rows and crochet over yarn tails when possible. A helpful video tutorial demonstrating how to do both is available below.
  • If you can’t see the video above demonstrating how to change colors and crochet over yarn tails, click HERE to watch it on YouTube.
