According to various sources online, this wacky holiday was founded by Marvel Comics back in the 1990s as a way to celebrate the everyday, real world heroes such as fire fighters and critical care nurses. But, of course, it is also a time to celebrate those imaginary heroes that you (or your kids or grandkids) may love.
