Yarn Shop Review: Must Love Yarn in Shelburne, VT

I’m sharing a review of Must Love Yarn in Shelburne, Vermont. This is my current local yarn shop located just outside of Burlington.

As my longtime readers know, I moved to Burlington, Vermont from New York City back in 2023 and I am car-free. I was a bit worried when I got here that I wouldn’t be able to get around to buy yarn, but I discovered that there are options! My favorite local yarn shop is Must Love Yarn in Shelburne VT. It’s a quick drive from Burlington or you can also take public transportation (the #6 Shelburne Road GMT bus stops about half a block away). Must Love Yarn is celebrating its tenth anniversary this weekend so it seemed like a fitting time to share my review.

Yarn Shop Review by Underground Crafter

I first visited Must Love Yarn in Shelburne, VT in December 2023 and I’ve since been back several times. It’s a bit hard to see from the road, but the website lets you know that it’s in the same building as American Meadows (which has a much larger sign).

When you step inside, you’ll find a nice selection of yarn from brands including Araucania, Berroco, Blue Sky Fibers, Brown Sheep Co., Ella Rae, Frabjous Fibers & Wonderland Yarn, Green Mountain Spinnery, Istex Lopi, Juniper Moon Farm, KFI Collection, Malabrigo, Noro, Plymouth Yarn, and Regia. Most of the yarn is arranged in shelving.

One of my favorite things about Must Love Yarn is the wide array of local yarns from New England spinners and dyers.

I love it when yarn stores have something special to offer for folks that are traveling, and I also love supporting small and local businesses. The local yarn collection is great for both.

Must Love Yarn also has a classroom in the back. Besides classes, they offer a yarn crafters group twice a week. When I visited, folks were very welcoming.

There is also a good selection of needles, hooks, and notions from local artisans as well as companies like Katrinkles and Knitter’s Pride.

The prices are about what you’d expect for a local yarn shop (that is, higher than a big box store) and there are more luxury yarns than workhorse yarns (though you’ll find some of those, too). The staff is friendly and helpful. They ask if you need help but don’t follow you around if you’d like to peruse on your own. If you’re in Shelburne or Burlington or really anywhere in Chittenden County or northwest Vermont, stop by Must Love Yarn for yourself!
