Striped Beanie Crochet Pattern: Beacon Beanie in 10 Sizes

I’m excited to share a striped beanie crochet pattern today. The Beacon Beanie is available in 10 sizes from newborn through adult large. It uses just one skein in each of two colors for all sizes, and it makes a fun, gender-neutral beanie that is perfect for wearing, donating, or gifting.

These two colors in Herrschners Worsted 3 yarn (Espresso at left and Goldenrod at right) really called out to me for the fall. You could make your version in a different combination for other seasons, in team colors, or just in your favorite colors to wear.

I like little pops of texture but I also like mindless projects I can work on during my commute or while watching the stream, and the Beacon Beanie is kind of the best of both worlds.

The Beacon Beanie is a little bit longer than a typical beanie with a cinched top, but I’m still calling it a beanie because it’s fairly snug fitting.

The pattern is fairly easy to remember, so you could definitely make matching sets for the family for the holidays, or “batch crochet” a bunch for charity donations. This striped beanie crochet pattern is available in 10 sizes. Use less than 1 skein in each of 2 colors for a textured, gender-neutral project that is perfect for wearing, donating, or gifting!

Finished Sizes

• Newborn (0-3 Months, 3-6 Months, 6-12 Months, Toddler, Child Small, Child Large, Teen/Adult Small, Adult Medium, Adult Large). Photographed sample is Teen/Adult Small shown on a mannequin with 22.5” (57 cm) head circumference.
  • Newborn: 13” (33 cm) hat circumference x 6” (15 cm) length.
  • 0-3 Months: 15” (38 cm) hat circumference x 6.5” (16.5 cm) length.
  • 3-6 Months: 16″ (40.5 cm) hat circumference x 7″ (18 cm) length.
  • 6-12 Months: 17” (42 cm) hat circumference x 7.25” (18.5 cm) length.
  • Toddler: 18” (45.5 cm) hat circumference x 7.75” (19.5 cm) length.
  • Child Small: 19” (48.5 cm) hat circumference x 8.25” (21 cm) length.
  • Child Large: 20″ (51 cm) hat circumference x 8.5″ (21.5 cm) length.
  • Teen/Adult Small: 21” (53.5 cm) hat circumference x 9” (23 cm) length.
  • Adult Medium: 22” (56 cm) hat circumference x 9.25” (23.5 cm) length.

Materials

• Herrschners Worsted 3 yarn (100% acrylic, 3 oz/85 g, 183 yd/168 m) – 1 skein each in Goldenrod (CA) and Espresso (CB), or approximately 50 yd (60 yd, 70 yd, 75 yd, 85 yd, 95 yd, 105 yd, 115 yd, 120 yd, 135 yd)/46 m (55 m, 64 m, 69 m, 78 m, 87 m, 96 m, 105 m, 110 m, 125 m) in CA and 40 yd (50 yd, 60 yd, 65 yd, 70 yd, 80 yd, 90 yd, 100 yd, 105 yd, 115 yd)/37 m (46 m, 55 m, 60 m, 64 m, 73 m, 82 m, 92 m, 96 m, 105 m) in CB in any medium weight yarn.
• US Size H-8/5 mm crochet hook, or any size needed to obtain correct gauge.
• US Size I-9/5.5 mm crochet hook, or any size needed to obtain correct gauge.
• Yarn needle.

Gauge

• 10 sts in pattern for Hat Band with smaller hook = 2.25″ (6 cm) across. For best fit, always check your gauge.
• 13 sts in pattern for Work Even with larger hook = 4″ (10 cm) across. For best fit, always check your gauge.

• ch – chain
• cl – 2-dc cluster – [Yo, insert hook into st, yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops] twice in the same st, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook. A video tutorial for this stitch is available below.

• dc – double crochet
• FPsc – front post single crochet – Insert hook from front around back to front of st in previous round, yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops. A video tutorial for this stitch is available below.
