2019 Crochet Cancer Challenge with Sweet Potato 3

I’m honored to be participating in the Crochet Cancer Challenge with Sweet Potato 3 for the third year in a row. Read on to find out how you can participate by donating a hat to someone with cancer or to a local cancer charity, as well as how you can get an ebook from my Ravelry shop for free with your pledge.

When Christine from Sweet Potato 3 invited me to participate in the sixth annual Crochet Cancer Challenge, I knew I wanted to honor the memory of my maternal grandmother, Libby. She taught me to crochet and we were very close. Back in 2007, she passed away after a brief fight with pancreatic cancer. I actually started crocheting more as a way to honor her memory, so you could even say that she inspired me to start my business in 2008.

Purple is the awareness color for pancreatic cancer, and it also happens to be my favorite color. I looked through my collection of crochet hat patterns to find six that I thought would be great for donating to a person with cancer and put them all together into an ebook called 6 Hats for Healing, Volume 1.

6 Hats for Healing, Volume 1 by Underground Crafter

This collection includes six patterns that are available for free on my blog (shown clockwise from the top left):

As you can see, three of the hats already have a touch of purple in the samples and of course, you can make your version in any colors you’d like. Be sure to use a soft yarn if you plan to donate your hat to someone who is experiencing hair loss as part of their cancer treatment. My personal favorite yarn for super soft hats is Lion Brand Heartland (or Heartland Thick & Quick if you are looking for a bulkier yarn).

If you also knit, you may want to check out my Bird Tracks Beanie

Free knitting pattern: Bird Tracks Beanie in Lion Brand Heartland in 4 sizes by Underground Crafter | This textured beanie features a traveling stitch pattern. Pick your favorite method (knit flat and seamed, or knit seamlessly in the round) to make your version. This pattern is designed to meet the donation requirements of Knots of Love. This is a bonus pattern for the Hummingbird Hat and Baby Bird Blanket Knit-a-Long, a free KAL sponsored by Lion Brand.

or my Hummingbird Hat pattern. Both are free and would also be perfect for donation.

Pledge to crochet or knit a hat for someone with cancer (or to donate to a local cancer charity) and then use coupon code CC2019 to get 6 Hats for Healing, Volume 1 for free through 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Sunday, October 27, 2019! Click here to add the pattern with the coupon code to your cart.
