The Promenade Shawl crochet pattern is a one-skein triangular shawl that works up easily with simple stitches. Wear it as a scarf in cold weather and as a shawl in warm weather. Kathy from ELK Studio has her Make It For Me Event going on again this year. After all that holiday crafting, you need some “crochet for me” time, right?

It’s no secret that my favorite crochet projects to make for me are triangular shawls. If you’ve met me in real life, you may have even seen me wearing one! That’s why I’ve always designed shawls for the Make It For Me Event. In 2016, it was the Rainbow After the Storm Shawlette

Beach Stroll Memories Shawl, free crochet pattern in Cloudborn Superwash Merino Worsted Twist yarn by Underground Crafter | I love the soothing, repetitive motions of making granny squares. This rectangular shawl uses a variation on the traditional granny square pattern. It’s easy to adapt the pattern to your favorite size. The stitch pattern allows for a bit of air flow so you don’t get too hot when wearing it.And, in 2018, it was the Fire and Ice Shawl.

I wanted something REALLY relaxing for that post-holiday stress crash, so I decided on the granny stitch, one of my favorites.

Promenade Shawl, free crochet pattern in Red Heart It's a Wrap yarn by Underground CrafterI wanted something portable, so I made this a one-skein project in Red Heart It’s a Wrap yarn. It’s a yarn with 3 color changes to make color-blocking easy. I worked the main body of the shawl with the granny stitch and then for the border, I decided to use another favorite stitch pattern: the v-stitch.

Promenade Shawl, free crochet pattern in Red Heart It's a Wrap yarn by Underground CrafterThis is an easy-to-customize pattern since you can just repeat Row 3 until you reach the size that you want. Use any weight of yarn you like with a hook that is 1-3 sizes larger than what is recommended. Try out the stitches until you like the drape. Make your Promenade Shawl with stripes, solids, or color-blocking — make it yours!

Promenade Shawl, free crochet pattern in Red Heart It's a Wrap yarn by Underground CrafterAnd, why the Promenade Shawl, you ask? The Brooklyn Promenade is a favorite place to take a little stroll during lunchtime when I’m at work, and, in my humble opinion, it has the best view of the Manhattan skyline. What do you think?

Promenade Shawl, free crochet pattern in Red Heart It's a Wrap yarn by Underground CrafterI love that the yarn is lightweight enough that I can wear my Promenade Shawl as a scarf inside of my coat if I want, or on the outside. You choose what works best for you. And, the cotton blend yarn makes it breathable enough to wear as a shawl in warmer weather, too.

Promenade Shawl

Crochet Pattern by Underground Crafter

Promenade Shawl, free crochet pattern in Red Heart It's a Wrap yarn by Underground CrafterThis triangular, color-blocked shawl uses the granny stitch and is edged with a v-stitch border. Wear it as a scarf in the winter and as a shawl in the warmer weather. This pattern was designed for ELK Studio’s 2019 Make It For Me Event.

  • US F-5/3.75 mm crochet hook, or any size needed to obtain correct gauge.
  • Yarn needle.
  • Stitch marker (optional).

  • Rows 1-4 = 4” (10 cm) across straight edge. Exact gauge is not critical for this project.

  1. I’ve been making this shawl for years in worsted weight and then I donate to the nursing home. I’m loving it in the lighter weight yarn and the V-Stitch border…… Wow! something for me…. LOL
