Crochet Pattern by Underground Crafter
Join motifs and rows together and add a decorative edge.
The Textures and Tassels Blanket is a mystery crochet along for a throw-sized blanket worked in a combination of motifs and rows. Borders are crocheted in the round and the blanket is finished off with tassels. (Optional, of course, if you don’t like tassels.) New clues will be released on Fridays through December 10, 2021.
Finished Size
- Throw Blanket.
Materials
- Lion Brand Heartland yarn (Solids: 100% acrylic, 5 oz/142 g, 251 yd/230 m; Tweeds: 94% acrylic/6% rayon, 4 oz/113 g, 200 yd/183 m): 14 skeins in your choice of colors, or approximately 3,320 yards/3,036 meters in any medium weight yarn.
- Clover Amour US Size I-9/5.5 mm crochet hook, or size that matches gauge or you prefer using with medium weight yarn.
- Clover Tassel Maker in Large or Small, or the bundle of both sizes (optional, but very helpful if you plan to finish your blanket with tassels).
- Clover Quick Locking Stitch Marker set (optional, but helpful for marking the front and holding pieces together for seaming).
- Clover Chibi yarn needle.

Textures and Tassels Blanket Pattern Notes
- The Textures and Tassels Blanket Blanket is constructed using a combination of motifs and rows. Borders are crocheted in the round. New “clues” will be released on Fridays during 2021.
- I am using 3 colors for my version of the blanket: Lion Brand Heartland yarn in 178 Pinnacles (CA), 195 Biscayne (CB), and 350 Mount Rainier Tweed (CC). This is a “dye lot” yarn, so be sure to get enough of each color you plan to use so that the colors match. If you substitute a “no dye lot” yarn, the dyes are consistent between batches so you can order additional yarn as needed and the colors will match.
- You can use as many or as few colors as you like for your version. I recommend at least 2 colors to show certain stitch patterns.
- Whenever possible, I recommend crocheting over your yarn tails as you work. Sometimes, a stitch pattern will be too lacy to effectively crochet over your yarn tails. In that case, I recommend weaving in ends.

- Stitches n Scraps has helpful video and photo tutorials for 3 ways of weaving in ends here. I use the yarn (tapestry) needle method.
- Because the border will be crocheted in the round over the unworked sides of rows, when changing colors often you can carry your yarn tails up the side of your work. AllFreeCrochet has a helpful video tutorial for carrying your yarn tails up the side of your work here.
- Color changes are only suggestions. You are welcome to change colors more or less often.

- CC – Color C
- ch – chain
- dc – double crochet
- sc – single crochet
- sc2tog – single crochet 2 stitches together – [Insert hook in next st, yo and draw up a loop] twice, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook. Fiber Flux has a helpful video tutorial for this stitch here.

Notes for Part 21
- Gauge: Row = 48” (122 cm) wide; or approximately 13.5 sts = 4” (10 cm) in pattern.
- Ch 1 at beginning of Rows and sl st joins do not count as a stitches.
- Color changes are only suggestions. You are welcome to change colors more or less often. For this section, my Color A is Lion Brand Heartland yarn in 350 Mount Rainier Tweed.

Pattern Instructions
Assemble Squares 13-20
- Using long yarn tails from end of final round, join squares from Parts 13-20 with a slip stitch seam (see Pattern Notes for Part 21) as follows:
- Position Square 13 and Square 14 with Right Sides together. On Wrong Sides, start at corner ch-2 sp. Working through both layers, join 1 side with a slip stitch seam through outer loops of stitches across square, finishing in next ch-2 sp. Evenly work 20 stitches across to join.
- Position Square 15 on Square 14 with Right Sides together. Join as for previous squares. Evenly work 20 stitches across to join.
- Position Square 16 on Square 15 with Right Sides together. Join as for previous squares. Evenly work 20 stitches across to join.
- Position Square 17 on Square 16 with Right Sides together. Join as for previous squares. Evenly work 20 stitches across to join.
- Position Square 18 on Square 17 with Right Sides together. Join as for previous squares. Evenly work 20 stitches across to join.
- Position Square 19 on Square 18 with Right Sides together. Join as for previous squares. Evenly work 20 stitches across to join.
- Position Square 20 on Square 19 with Right Sides together. Join as for previous squares. Evenly work 20 stitches across to join.
Join Row of Squares 13-20 to Last Row from Part 12
- See below for an assembly diagram.
- Using CC, join Row of Squares 13-20 to Part 12 with a slip stitch seam (see Pattern Notes for Part 21) as follows:
- Position Row of Squares 13-20 to last Row of Part 12 with Right Sides together. On Wrong Sides, start at corner ch-2 sp. Evenly work 160 slip stitches across as follows: [Join with 20 sl st across next square] 8 times.
- After completing this week’s section (below), your blanket should look like the assembly diagram above.
Pebble Stitch (worked over any multiple of 2 sts)
- With Right Side facing up, join CC with sl st to corner ch-2 sp at other edge of Row of Squares 13-20 (the long side that is not attached to Part 12).
- Row 1: Ch 1, [sc2tog in ch-2 sp and first sc of square, sc in next 18 sts, sc2tog in last sc of square and ch-2 sp] 8 times. (160 sts)
- Row 2: Turn, ch 1, starting in first st [sc in next st, dc in next st] across.
- Row 3: Repeat Row 2.
- Row 4: Turn, ch 1, sc in first st and in each st across. Fasten off.
- With yarn needle, weave in ends on all squares and joins.
