Welcoming Blanket Crochet Along

I’m announcing a new 10-week blanket mystery crochet along for 2024! The Welcoming Blanket is composed of nine 12″ floral granny square patterns with borders that you can combine to create your own unique throw blanket. My version meets the donation requirements of Welcome Blanket, an organization that displays and then distributes handmade blankets to recent immigrants to the United States. This post has all the information you’ll need to get started and participate. How the Welcoming Blanket Crochet Along Works

On Fridays from May 31 to August 2, 2024, I’ll share a new post in the Welcoming Blanket Crochet Along. The Welcoming Blanket is designed to measure 40″ (101.5 cm) when completed. This is the size preferred by our charity partner, Welcome Blanket (find out more below). While the finished Welcoming Blanket will be a throw measuring 40″ (101.5 cm) when completed, if you choose to add more squares or more borders, your finished blanket may be larger. I will share a new 12″ (30.5 cm) floral granny square pattern in each of the first nine weeks. In the last week, I will share the borders pattern.

Welcoming Blanket Yarn Requirements

The Welcoming Blanket pattern will be available in one size, as a cozy floral throw blanket. You can use it to cuddle under while watching television or crocheting your next project! Or, you can donate the finished blanket to our charity partner, Welcome Blanket (find out more below).

I’m using Caron One Pound (available at Mary Maxim | Amazon) yarn in three colors and a Clover Amour US Size J-10/6 mm crochet hook (available at WeCrochet | Amazon). Caron One Pound is an easy care acrylic yarn available in many beautiful colors!

For each Welcoming Blanket you plan to make, you’ll need:

  • Caron One Pound (available at Mary Maxim | Amazon) yarn (100% acrylic, 16 oz/454 g/812 yd/742 m) – 1 skein each in 02005 Sun Yellow (CA), 10517 Rose (CB), and 10620 Grass Green (CC), or approximately 812 yd/742 m in each of 3 medium weight yarns.
  • Clover Amour (available at WeCrochet | Amazon) US Size J-10/6 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Yarn needle.

You can choose as many colors as you’d like. While you can even crochet the blanket in one color, I recommend at least two colors as most of the squares will highlight better against a second color. When choosing colors, keep in mind that the squares will have a floral theme.

I recommend using a US Size J-10/6 mm crochet hook, or the size that you prefer using with medium weight yarn.

I’m so excited to be highlighting Welcome Blanket with this crochet along! Welcome Blanket is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that collects handmade blankets measuring 40″ (101.5 cm) square. These blankets are first exhibited at a partner organization and then distributed to newly arrived immigrants to the United States.
